Decentralization Committee 5th meeting of the year 2024.

Summary

In today's meeting, the Committee discussed and decided on the issues submitted to the 19th Majlis's Committee on Decentralization.

As a first issue, the Committee reviewed the V. Atoll Council's request to initiate efforts to reclaim funds received to the Ministry of Finance as rent for the previous four years pertaining to the premises "vaavu atholhu fihaara." Referring to the Ministry of Finance's recent response on the issue, North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to send a letter to the V. Atoll Council informing them of the update on the issue and closing the matter. Ungoofaaru Constituency Member Ibrahim Shifaz seconded the motion. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

 

Secondly, the Committee reviewed the issues referred to the Committee by the Election Commission regarding the 2023 Presidential election. One issue was the government's decision to implement projects using the Felidhe Atoll's lagoon without any consultation from the Felidhe Atoll Council and the second issue was the resignation of the Felidhe Atoll focal point and the Assistant Atoll Focal Point. Since the commission faced these issues during the 2023 Presidential election. North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed that these issues be filed as the purpose of reviewing the issues is no longer relevant. Ungoofaaru Constituency Member Ibrahim Shifaz seconded the motion. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.
