Summary

The agenda for today’s meeting was to set a deadline for the bill amending the Act No. 7/2021 (Higher Education and Training Act), and to discuss about how to proceed with the works of the bill.

Saudulla Hilmy, Thinadhoo North Constituency Member proposed the deadline for this bill to be 30th October 2024; it was seconded by Hussain Sameer Thoddoo Constituency Member.

At this point, Mahchangolhi North Constituency Member Ibrahim Mohammed and Villingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Aziz left the meeting.


The committee then discussed about conducting stakeholder consultations on the bill. Saudulla Hilmy, Thinadhoo North Constituency Member proposed to meet with the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the Maldives Qualifications Authority, Islamic University of Maldives, Maldives National University, Student Unions of the mentioned two universities, Villa College and the student association of Villa College to discuss about the bill. It was also proposed to request for the comments of the private colleges established in the Maldives, and to open for public comments. This proposal was seconded by Ali Moosa, Hoarafushi Constituency Member.
