In today’s meeting, the committee discussed regarding the formation of sub committees. After dividing state-owned companies into eight main areas, members were appointed to these sub-committees to study the issues related to them.

After that the committee discussed the issue sent by Housing Development Corporation mentioning the administrative challenges faced by the corporation due to the directives of Anti-Corruption Commission to halt works of some projects. It was decided to take the issue from the committee’s status as the company had informed the committee that the situation was no longer in place after the new government assumed office as it was a temporary measure taken during the transition process.

In addition to that, members discussed the issue sent by North Galholhu member Mohamed Ibrahim to review whether the relevant authorities have carried out the works stated in the State Owned Enterprises Committee’ report no. M19/SOE/2023/01 (The issue of withdrawal of money from the accounts of Bank of Maldives customers without the knowledge of the owners of the accounts) and the challenges faced by the authorities in implementing the recommendations of the report.

It was decided to meet the officials of Bank of Maldives, Maldives Monitory Authority, Maldives Police Services and Maldives Correctional Service to clarify the facts regarding the matter, as none of the members objected.

Furthermore, the committee decided to obtain information regarding previous managements corruption issues and action taken by the new management to mitigate those risks from Housing Development Corporation, Waste Management Corporation, Fenaka Corporation Limited, Maldives Ports Limited, Maldives Airports Company Limited and State Electric Company Limited as none of the members objected.

The committee also decided to write to Fenaka Corporation Limited about the details of the projects awarded for providing water and sewage in islands, the projects that were sub-contracted among those, the status of the work and the amount of money spent on those projects.
