Summary
In today's meeting, the Committee first addressed the issue forwarded by the Public Accounts Committee regarding the matter raised by the Thinadhoo Council, seeking clarification on the classifications of elective positions of Mayors, Presidents of Atoll Councils, Presidents of Island Councils, and Council members governed by Law number 7/2010, Decentralization Act. Thinadhoo Council mentioned despite these positions being under the purview of the People's Majlis for remuneration decisions, the categorization of these roles needs to be clarified. Next, the Committee reviewed the issue referred to the Committee by the Government Oversight Committee concerning a submission from the Faadhippolhu Atoll Council regarding the Atoll’s State House. The Council highlighted that the anticipated repair costs for the State House building exceed those for constructing a new building. Consequently, they have requested either the construction of a new building or a solution to transfer ownership of the State House building to the Council. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.
