First item on today’s agenda was to meet a team from the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the Waste Management corporation (WAMCO) regarding waste management issues in the Maldives. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and Mr. Mujthaba Jaleel, Managing Director of Waste Management corporation answered members questions on current plan for waste management and its timeline, generating an income from waste and challenges they face in waste management.
The second item was to inquire about installing solar panels on the roof of mosques to reduce the spending on electric bills. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and Mr. Mujthaba Jaleel, Managing Director of Waste Management corporation answered members questions on current efforts to reduce the spending on electricity bills of mosques and the progress made in the last 7 years to install solar panels on the roofs of mosques along with the current status of this project.
The committee had working quorum yet did not have a voting quorum. So, the chairman decided to postpone the other items on the agenda for another day and concluded the meeting.
