In today's meeting, the Committee first addressed the issue submitted by the Male' City Council regarding the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure, informing the Council of the termination of the Male' Streetscaping project on 23 June 2023. When queried by the Committee on whether the Council still wished to pursue a review of this matter, the Male' City Council responded that they no longer seek further review. Due to this North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to file the issue and this was seconded by Naifaru Constituency Member Yaaseen Abdulla. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

The second issue the Committee reviewed was the R. Innamaadhoo Council’s issue regarding the request to amend the Regulation number: 6-2018 (s.11). It was noted that the relevant Ministry had already informed the Council that they are working on the issue. Therefore, North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to file the issue and Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad seconded the motion.The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

The third issue that the Committee reviewed was Sh. Funadhoo Council’s issue regarding the Ministry of Finance’s direction to register the land on which Funadhoo Airport has been developed in the name of the Ministry of Finance. Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad proposed to request an update on the issue before the committee proceeds and this was seconded by Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed.The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

The fourth issue the Committee reviewed was the Local Government Authority’s issue concerning the management and maintenance of record of the work visas issued to expatriate workers under the Decentralization Act. Since this issue is submitted to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi proposed to file the issue and Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad seconded the motion. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

The fifth issue the Committee reviewed was the issue forwarded by the Public Accounts Committee regarding the matter raised by the Thinadhoo Council, seeking clarification on the classifications of elective positions of Mayors, Presidents of Atoll Councils, Presidents of Island Councils, and Council members governed by Law number 7/2010, Decentralization Act. Thinadhoo Council mentioned despite these positions being under the purview of the People's Majlis for remuneration decisions, the categorization of these roles needs to be clarified. Consequently, various state institutions treat them differently, leading to challenges in accessing state-provided services. Following extensive deliberation on the information provided by the Authorities regarding the issue, Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed proposed to respond to Thinadhoo Council stating the Committee would address the issue when further amendments are brought to the Law number: 7/2010 (Decentralization Act). This motion was seconded by North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.

The last issue that the Committee reviewed was the issue referred to the Committee by the Government Oversight Committee concerning a submission from the Faadhippolhu Atoll Council regarding the Atoll’s State House. The Council highlighted that the anticipated repair costs for the State House building exceed those for constructing a new building. Consequently, they have requested either the construction of a new building or a solution to transfer ownership of the State House building to the Council. The Committee reviewed the information from the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, which noted that the PISP (2025) includes a new building for the Faadhippolhu Atoll State House. Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi proposed that this information be communicated to the Faadhippolhu Atoll Council and that the matter be considered closed. This proposal was seconded by Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed. The Committee unanimously passed the motion.
