In today’s meeting, committee discussed the matter sent to committee regarding the motion on removal of Prosecutor General Uz. Hussain Shameem on the matter in accordance with Section 232(sh) of the Standing order.

The Committee decided to give the Prosecutor General 5 day period as mentioned in the Standing Order of the Parliament to respond to the allegations against him which was mentioned in the motion. This was proposed by Hulhudhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Shahid and seconded by North Feydhoo Constituency Member Ismail Nizar.

Then the committee discussed the Bill on Amendment to the Maldivian Legal Profession Act (No. 5/2019) and although the committee has fixed the deadline of the bill as 12^th August 2024, the committee decided to extend the deadline as 26^th August 2024 as more time was required to get more comments on this bill from relevant authorities. This was proposed by Holhudhoo Constituency Member AbdulSattar Mohamed and seconded by Faresmaathodha Constituency Member Ashraf Rasheed.
