Joint Committee of Committee on National Development and Heritage and Committee on Decentralization 1st meeting of the year 2024

Summary

The first agenda for today's meeting was to elect the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Committee. Director, Legal Affairs, Uza. Afzal Abdul Sattar conducted the appointments. Central Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr proposed to elect South Feydhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi as the Committee’s chair. This was seconded by North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan. The Committee unanimously decided to elect South Feydhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi as the Chair of the Committee.

 

As for the Deputy Chair of the Committee, North Henveyru Constituency Member  Ahmed Aifan proposed, and Kudahuvadhoo Constituency Member Hussain Hameed seconded the name of Central Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr. The Committee unanimously decided to elect Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr’s as the Deputy Chair.

 

The Committee then decided on the working quorum of the Committee. Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer proposed 12 members as the working quorum and Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr seconded this. The Committee unanimously decided on the Committee Working Quorum as 12 members.

 

Next the Committee decided on the voting quorum of the committee. Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer proposed 12 members as the voting quorum, and this was seconded by Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr. The Committee unanimously passed the voting quorum of the Committee to be 12 Members.


After that the Committee proceeded to set the deadlines for the two bills (Amendment Bill to the Decentralization Act (7/2010) and Infrastructure Development and Planning Bill submitted to the Committee. Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer proposed to set the deadline as 20th August 2024. This proposal was seconded by Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr. The Committee unanimously decided to set the deadline as 20th August 2024 for the two bills.

 

Lastly, Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad proposed that the two bills be opened for public comments until 18th August 2024. This proposal was seconded by Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr. The Committee unanimously passed the decision.
