Summary
In today’s meeting, committee met with Bar Council of Maldives regarding the bill proposed to the Parliament, Amendment to the Maldivian Legal Profession Bill. (Act No. 5/2019)
After meeting with Bar Council Committee reviewed the Legal Profession Amendment bill and since no member opposed on the bill proposed by the government, the proposal to pass the bill and sent to floor for consideration was put to vote. The amendment to the Maldives Legal Profession Act (Act. No. 5/2019) was passed unanimously with 5 votes.
Then the Committee discussed the Amendment to Criminal Procedure Act No. 12/2016 which was proposed to Parliament by North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim. Committee set the deadline for the bill as 15 October 2024. It was also decided in today’s meeting that an announcement for public comments on this bill should be given for 7 days starting today. And to send for Attorney General’s opinion on this amendment.
This was proposed by Kendhoo Contituency member Mauroof Zakir and seconded by North Feydhoo Constituency Member Ismail Nizar.
This proposal was passed unanimously with 6 votes.
