Summary

The agenda for today’s meeting was to review the Urban Development Bill. As the deadline for the bill had already passed, the committee discussed the possibility of extending it to allow more time for review. When the floor was opened for proposals, the Committee was presented with two motions for the extension. 

The first proposal was made by Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer to extend the bill's deadline by one month. This was seconded by Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad. The purpose of the extension was stated as to allow the committee to engage with key stakeholders, including Atoll Councils, Island Councils, NGOs and other CSOs.

Vote 1: Extend the deadline of the bill by 1 month meet with the stakeholders of the bill.

Result: Not Passed.

 

The second proposal regarding the extension was made by Hoarafushi Constituency Member Ali Moosa and Central Machchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr seconded to extend the deadline for the bill to November 7, 2024.

Vote 2: Extend the deadline of the bill to 7th of November 2024

Result: Passed.

 

Following this, the Committee further discussed how to proceed with the bill review. Central Machchangolhi Constituency Member Ahmed Xamyr proposed to schedule a meeting next week, allowing committee members time to evaluate the public comments. This proposal was seconded by North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan.

Vote 3: Committee to be scheduled next week and Members to evaluate the comments proposed for the Bill by the Public.

Result: Passed.
