Summary
In this meeting, the paperwork of the Refinancing agreement of 74 million USD to develop and upgrade Velana Interational Airport was shared with the members.
In addition, the committee discussed the letter from Auditor General’s Office highlighting the challenges faced by AGO to conduct the special audit of Fenaka Corporation Limited due o delays in obtaining the necessary information and documents from the company. As proposed by Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim and seconded by Kela Constituency member Abdulla Shareef, the committee decided to inquire the reason behind the delays from the company and inform them to fully cooperate with the AGO and handover the requested documents in a timely manner. Also, the committee decided to notify this matter to the Ministry of Finance, Privatization and Corporatization Board and State Trading Organization.
Furthermore, the committee discussed the corruption risk assessment report related to the medical welfare system shared by the Anti-Corruption Commission. As proposed by Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim and seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Qafoor Moosa, the committee decided to review the report along with ongoing issue related to unsettled Aasandha and NSPA payments to various organizations and draft a committee report with proposed recommendations.
Then, the committee discussed a letter from Gdh. Hoadedhoo Council raising concerns related to an agreement signed between Ministry of fisheries, agriculture and marine resources and Horizon Fisheries Pvt Ltd dated 08th December 2005. The committee decided to send the matter to the relevant committee (Committee on Economic Affairs).
In addition, the committee decided to file the following issues.
1. Copy of the letter GDh. Faremaathodaa Council sent to Local Government Authority regarding the visit to Sri Lanka in search of investors.
2. The copy of letter from Local Government Authority to Ministry of Finance requesting to allocate the budget required for the councils related to the announcement of Fenaka Corporation following the incident of Electric shock in R. Ungoofaaru.
Furthermore, the committee discussed the issue of expenditure incurred by Aasandha Company Limited for the construction of a hospital. As proposed by the committee chair, it was decided to inquire from Aasandha whether the construction works has been on going as per the work schedule and to notify of any challenges faced during the construction works.
