Summary
In this meeting the committee discussed about deadline for completion of review of the matter referred by the President for the appointment of a person to the post of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation in accordance with Section 8(h) of Tax Administration Act (No. 3/2010) and how to proceed with the issue. In this regard, South Hithadhoo constituency member Ibrahim Nazil proposed to set deadline to complete committee works of the issue to 15th November 2024 and it was seconded by Hoarafushi constituency member Ali Moosa.
This was followed by finalising the date for the interview of the candidates. South Hithadhoo constituency member Ibrahim Nazil proposed to interview the candidates on 5th November 2024 and it was seconded by Hoarafushi constituency member Ali Moosa.
About this issue, committee also discussed about the deadline to allow submission of public complaints for the candidates. Horafushi constituency member Ali Moosa supported the proposal of Hithadhoo South constituency member Ibrahim Nazil to allow the public to file complaints by 30th October 2024.
Furthermore, in this meeting committee discussed the issue submitted by the Union for Employment Agencies of Maldives. In this regard, committee highlighted the article 66-1 of the Act no:2/2008 (Employment Act) states that the provisions of Section 5 of the Act shall be implemented by the ministry entrusted with the responsibility of implementing policies relating to the employment of expatriates in the Maldives and the ministry entrusted with the task of issuing quotas for foreign workers to work in the Maldives, allowing the entry of foreigners, and planning and implementing the necessary action, is the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology. As a result concerns of Union for Employment Agencies of Maldives regarding Xpat system must be reviewed by the Committee on National Security Services (241) as the ministry entrusted with Xpat system and expatriates are oversighted by that committee. Therefore, Kendhoo constituency member Mauroof Zakir proposed to refer this issue to the Committee on National Security Services (241) and it was seconded by Hoarafushi constituency member Ali Moosa.
Lastly in this meeting, the committee discussed Letter sent by Secretariat of the South Atoll Hoan’dedhdhoo Council regarding the revision of the rent of the land leased to Horizon Fisheries Private Limited as a part of the project to develop Skipjack Tuna industry. In this regard, North Hithadhoo constituency Saudhulla Hilmee proposed to meet minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Horizon Fisheries Private Limited and Secretariat of the South Atoll Hoan’dedhdhoo Council’s officials and it was seconded by Kendhoo constituency member Mauroof Zakir.
