Summary
In this meeting, the committee discussed a letter received from a former employee at the Auditor General’s Office requesting to review how the office carried out the process of his retirement from the post. Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to seek information from the Auditor General’s Office regarding the issue and to ask the claimed person whether he has submitted the issue to Employment Tribunal or investigative agency seeking to take action to restore the lost right. Gemanafushi Constituency member Asadhulla Shihab seconded this proposal and was passed by the committee unanimously.
The issue of the agreement between Aasandha Company Limited and North Coast Contractors Private Limited to build an office building was discussed. Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim proposed and Central Hithadhoo Constituency member Ahmed Azaan Marzooq seconded to request Maldives Police Service to investigate the issue. Furthermore, as the letter from Aasandha Company Limited suggests that the contractor might not be competent to complete the work, Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim proposed to suggest them to consider terminating the contract and to recover the advance payment to the contractor. It was seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa. Both the proposals were passed by the majority.
Following the discussions, the copy of the letter from Family Protection Authority to the President’s Office requesting office space from a government building to solve the limitation of space and to reduce the budget required for office rent, and the copy of letter from GDh. Dhaandhoo Council to the Local Government Authority requesting to allocate the budget required to accommodate for the salary and living allowance increment of the Council members, was shared with the committee.
Furthermore, the committee decided to revise the deadline to complete the Sovereign Development Fund Bill, Public Debt Bill, Fiscal Responsibility Bill and Insurance Bill till the end of November 2024.
In addition, Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim proposed to look in the issue of the Cigarette smuggling cases that might arise due to the revisions of the taxes related to it. He also highlighted that apart from the loss of the government income, the safety of the boarder could be questionable if this continues. Hence, to bring the issue of security at the border to the notice of the Committee on National Security Services. Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa seconded this proposal.
Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh proposed to review the project of building police stations, police posts and detention centers in the atolls under the agreement between Maldives Police Service and ABL Indira Projects JV, which was seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa.
Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed and South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed seconded to review the Boarder Security Agreement. However, the proposal to review the issue was not passed by the vote.
