Summary
Although today's meeting was held to meet the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and related officials of the ministry regarding the letter sent on October 10, 2024 by the South Huvadhoo Atoll Hondedhoo Council, as the minister was unable to attend the meeting due to minister’s other commitments, committee decided to postpone the issue for another day and to continue the meeting to discuss other pending works of the committee. Firstly, committee continued discussions regarding the letter sent by the Drivers Association of Maldives regarding their concerns over introduction of a taxi fleet by government. In this regard, three proposals as follows were proposed to the committee:
1. Nort Thinadhoo constituency member Saudhulla Hilmee proposed to meet Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation and Drivers Association of Maldives together and it was seconded by Kendhoo constituency member Mauroof Zakir.
2. Central Mahchangolhi constituency member Ahmed Xamyr proposed to finalise the issue based on the information shared by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Drivers Association of Maldives and it was seconded by Velidhoo constituency member Mohamed Abbas. (this proposal was withdrawn later)
3. Hoarafushi constituency member Ali Moosa proposed to inquire about the concerns of the Driver’s Association of Maldives and their solutions to the issue in writing and seek a response to the association’s concerns and solutions from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and it was seconded by Central Mahchangolhi constituency member Ahmed Xamyr.
Committee passed the first proposal by consensus, as a result other proposals were nullified.
Lastly, in this meeting North Thinadhoo constituency member Saudhulla Hilmee proposed to review Kaadehdhoo Airport issue as the operators of the airport have not developed the airport facilities properly and is poorly maintained even though it has a high potential to generate higher income and can be economically beneficial to the country. In this regard committee decided to meet the airport operator Villa Air and visit the airport after the meeting if necessary.
