Summary
In today’s meeting discussions were carried out on how to proceed with the review of 2025 budget proposed by the Ministry of Finance.
Before the beginning of the review of 2025 State budget, as Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad and Eydhafushi Constituency member Ahmed Saleem was elected as the chair and deputy chair respectively of the budget committee to review the Supplementary Budget for the year 2024, and since there has been no change in the members and as a short time has passed since the work of Supplementary Budget concluded, whether to re-elect a chair and Deputy chair or commence the review of 2025 budget with the previously elected chair and Deputy chair was opened for discussion.
Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Ibrahim Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to re-elect chair and Deputy chair for the review of 2025 budget. South Hithadhoo Constituency member Ibrahim Nazil seconded the proposal and as no member present at the time objected the proposal, the re-election of the Committee chair and Deputy chair proceeded.
Shabana Rasheed, Director General, presided over the selection process of committee's chairperson and vice chairperson.
Central Mahchangolhi Constituency member Ahmed Xamyr proposed to elect Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad as the Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by North Thinadhoo Constituency member Saudulla Hilmy and passed unanimously.
North Thinadhoo Constituency member Saudulla Hilmy proposed to elect Eydhafushi Constituency member Ahmed Saleem as the Deputy Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by Kendhoo Constituency member Mauroof Zakir and passed unanimously.
Following the election, the Chair of the Committee, Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad presided over and opened the floor to propose the quorum (working, voting quorum and the quorum of the committee meetings in which the committee meets with people) or continue with the decision taken regarding quorums on the 1st meeting of the committee held on 27th October 2024. Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to continue with the former decision taken regarding quorums. It was seconded by South Hithadhoo Constituency member Ibrahim Nazil and passed unanimously.
Next on the agenda was finalizing deadline to complete the work of 2025 budget by the committee. Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to complete the work of 2025 budget latest by 20th November 2024. Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau seconded the proposal and was passed unanimously.
Furthermore, discussions regarding obtaining professional opinion from MMA and Auditor General’s Office and obtaining additional information regarding proposed budgets of independent institutions and individual offices were carried out. Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to send letters to the relevant authorities. Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau seconded the proposal and was passed unanimously.
