Summary
In this meeting, the letter received from North Coast Contractors requesting to meet with the committee to discuss the decision of the committee regarding the agreement between Aasandha Company Limited and North Coast Contractors Pvt Ltd to build an Office building was discussed. As proposed by Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau and seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa, the committee decided to conduct a meeting with North Coast Contractors Pvt Ltd, Aasandha Company Limited and Housing Development Corporation regarding this issue.
Information received from Fenaka Corporation Limited and Privatization and Corporatization Board upon the request of the committee following a letter from Auditor General’s Office stating the challenges faced in obtaining documents and information required for the special audit of Fenaka Corporation Limited was shared with the members. As proposed by Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau and seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa, the committee decided to respond to the Auditor General’s Office with the information received from Fenaka Corporation Limited and request them to give a deadline on the completion of the audit.
The committee discussed the information received from the Ministry of Finance, Attorney General’s Office and Auditor General’s Office as per the request of the committee, regarding the settlement issue. As proposed by Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau, the committee decided to request Auditor General’s Office to conduct a special audit of the settlements given by the government from 17 November 2018 to 17 November 2023.
The details of the loans and sovereign guarantee till the end of third quarter of this year received by the Ministry of Finance were shared with the members.
Furthermore, Central Hithadhoo Constituency member Ahmed Azaan Marzooq proposed to review the issue of those who are not paying rent of land and buildings leased to various persons for business purposes by Housing Development Corporation Limited. The committee decided to review this issue, as seconded by Baarashu Constituency Ibrahim Shujau and obtain information from Housing Development Corporation regarding the issue.
Following this proposal, South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed proposed and Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa seconded to review the agreement between the government and Bestinet Sdn Bhd. However, it was not passed by the vote of the members.
Central Hithadhoo Constituency member Ahmed Azaan Marzooq proposed that reviewing such an agreement is not under the mandate of this committee, rather it falls under the mandate of Committee on National Security Services. It was seconded by by Baarashu Constituency Ibrahim Shujau and passed by the majority of the members present in the committee.
