12 Nov 2024 Number M20/M/IQ/2024/20
In this meeting, the committee met with the Gdh. Hoadedhoo Council and council’s officials regarding the letter sent by the Council about council’s concerns related to the agreement between Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources and Horizon Fisheries Pvt Ltd dated 08th December 2005. In this regard, Council’s president stated that as per the land agreement, rent must be revised by every five years and though the rent had to be revised in 2023, it has not been revised so far. Councilor insisted that to revise the rent of the land to according to valuation done by the Maldives Land and Surrey Authority's Land Valuation Committee which is of 60 laari per hector as the Horizon Fisheries Private Limited has unfair advantage as of now with a lower rent rate compared to other small business. The council has voted to propose minimum of 20 to 60 laari per hector per month as a rent value. He also stated that they want to see the facility in operation and the company does not have the capacity to do so. He also stated that the Ministry of Finance had issued a circular regarding transfer of agreements to the respective council’s name with the amendment to the Decentralization Act but the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources haven’t transferred the agreement to the council’s name.
