Summary
During today’s meeting, the Committee reviewed a public letter highlighting challenges faced by the petitioner in Hdh. Hirimaradhoo Council. Recognizing the seriousness of the concerns outlined in the letter, Nilandhoo Constituency Member, Fathimath Sauda, proposed advising the petitioner to refer the matter to the relevant authorities for resolution. The motion was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member, Hassan Waheed. This proposal was passed unanimously.
The Committee also reviewed a second public letter, which raised concerns about the transition of the Gdh. Thinadhoo Council to a City Council. North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed that the Committee should seek legal advice on the matter from the Counsel General and the Attorney General. This motion was seconded by Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi.
This proposal was passed unanimously.
The Committee also reviewed a public letter expressing concerns about the Male’ City Council’s decision to convert the Maafannu Cemetery into a parking zone. North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed that the Committee seek the Ministry of Islamic Affairs' perspective on the matter from a Shari’ah standpoint, while also obtaining an update from the Male’ City Council and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works. This was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed. This proposal was passed unanimously.
Lastly, the Committee reviewed a public letter alleging that the petitioner’s land was wrongfully taken by the Fuvahmulah City Council. North Henveyru Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed gathering information on the matter from the Council before proceeding with further review. The motion was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed.
