The first item on today’s agenda was the issue of companies and individuals not paying environmental damage fines. Regarding this issue, West Maafannu Constituency Member, Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim proposed to summon representatives from the Ministry of Transport and civil aviation to clarify additional information, clarify from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, whether they had any discussions with the Ministry of Economic Develoment and Trade about stopping the business that are not paying these environmental damage fines from operating in the Maldives, and to clarify whether Parliament has the authority to instruct the relevant authorities to stop businesses that have repeatedly failed to pay environmental damage fees from operating in the Maldives. It was seconded by Central Hulhumale Constituency Member, Abdulla Shazeem.
The chairperson decided to summon representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to the next committee meeting before concluding today’s meeting.
