In this meeting, the committee first discussed a letter received from the President’s Office seeking the decision of the Parliament regarding a pay cut of 10% from the salary of the heads of independent institutions, the judiciary and the members of parliament with an aim of reducing the public expenditure under the economic reform agenda. As no member opposed, the committee decided to set a deadline to complete this work as 20th February 2025, Thursday.
Following this, paperwork related to 4 loan/grant agreements with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the “Enhancing Climate Resilience and Food Security Project” and paperwork related to a loan agreement of 146,920,000 AED from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFC) to accommodate additional finance for “Expansion of Velana International Airport Project” was shared with the members.
The quarterly Debt Bulletin for fourth quarter of 2024 received from Ministry of Finance and Planning was discussed and Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed to sit with the Ministry to further discuss the loan details. South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed seconded this proposal and was passed unanimously.
Afterwards, the committee discussed forecasted Budget Cashflow plan for the year 2025, South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed proposed to discuss this report in the meeting decided above. This proposal was seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa and passed unanimously.
Following these reports, the Annual Report of Ministry of Finance and Planning for the year 2024 and Annual Report of National Pay Commission for the year 2024 was shared with the members.
Furthermore, copy of a letter from Auditor General’s Office to Local Government Authority stating the concerns regarding the local councils participating in a roadshow held in Thailand to promote the islands was discussed. The committee decided to obtain further information from Local Government Authority regarding the issue.
In addition, a copy of a letter from Family Protection Authority to Ministry of Finance regarding their office space issue was shared with the members.
