Foreign Relations Committee's 1st Meeting of 2025.

Summary

In today's meeting, the committee reviewed the 4 issues sent to the committee on the 3rd sitting of 1st session of 2025 (11th February 2025). Below are the issues the committee reviewed.

  1. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the United Kingdom Ms. Iruthisham Adam, H.Orchid, as the permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  2. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, M.Kothanmaage, as the permanent representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  3. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, M.Villaadhashuge, as the permanent representative to the World Trade Organization, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  4. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the United States of America Mr. AbdulGafoor Mohamed, Ma.Athamavilla, as the non-resident ambassador to the Canada, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  5. Issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the Saudi Arabia Mr. Ahmed Sareer, M.Westside, as the non-resident ambassador to The Arab Republic of Egypt, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).

South Maafannu Constituency Member Abdulla Rifau proposed to neither to check the records and nor to interview the appointees as all the appointees are already appointed for different positions, henceforth, their records were checked previously and were also interviewed previously by the Committee. It was seconded by South Fuvahmulah Constituency Ibrahim Hussain. The proposal was passed unanimously.

And then North Kulhudhuffushi Constituency Member Mohamed Dhawoodh proposed to set a deadline of February 13, 2025, (Thursday) for the completion of reviewing these issues. It was seconded by Vilingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez. The proposal was passed unanimously.
