Summary
Today the committee reviewed the approval request from the President for the appointed Minister of Tourism and Environment, as per article 129 (a) of the constitution. In this regard, West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim proposed to approve G. Noomaraa Hiya, Thoriq Ibrahim who has been appointed as the Minister of Tourism and Environment by the President as the “Qualifications of Ministers” stated in article 130 of the Constitution of Maldives were fulfilled and the Minister has not violated any of the “Restrictions” stated in article 136 of the constitution. And it was seconded by Dhihdhoo Constituency Member Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
After that, the committee discussed the matter of approving the mandate changes to the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology and Ministry of Health sent by the President as per article 116 (a) of the constitution. In this regard, Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazad proposed to approve the mandate changes to the 3 ministries in accordance with the President’s recommendation. It was seconded by South Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Musthafa Hussain.HHh
The committee then proceeded to attend to the 3 issues sent by North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim. With regard to issue of hazardous incidents that are occurring in areas where tourists are active, especially in protected "marine parks" and the issue of lack of monitoring of the “South Ari Protected Area” (SAMPA), Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazad proposed to send letters to the Ministry of Tourism and Environmentand Environment Protection Agency to clarify the issues and also to meet the relevant officials from the said institutions. It was seconded by Dhihdhoo Constituency Member Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
Lastly, the committee deliberated on the issue of internship amount not being included in the loans given to the MBBS students, and the hardship faced they face to get internship opportunities from IGMH. In this regard, South Hulhumale Constituency Member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed proposed to meet with the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and Ministry of Health to clarify the issue. It was seconded by South Galolhu Constituency Member Meekail Ahmed Naseem.
