Foreign Relations Committee's 2nd Meeting of 2025.

Summary

In today's meeting, the committee reviewed the issues sent to the committee on the 4th sitting of the 2025 1st session of the Parliament held on February 12, 2025. Below are the issues the committee reviewed.

  1. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Ms. Shiuneen Rasheedh, S.Hulhudhoo/ Asareege, as the non-resident ambassador to the Kingdom of Bhutan, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  2. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the Saudi Arabia Mr. Ahmed Sareer, M.Westside, as the permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Corporation, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  3. The issue referred by the President for the approval of the Parliament on the participation of “Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works” in accordance with Article 115(f) (1) and Article 93(h) of the constitution.
  4. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the ambassador to the Saudi Arabia Mr. Ahmed Sareer, M.Westside, as the non-resident ambassador to the State of Kuwait, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act).
  5. The issue sent by the President on the matter of the appointment of the permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, M.Villaadhashuge, as the non-resident ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, in accordance with Article 115(d) of the Constitution and Article 14 of Act No. 20/2021 (The Maldives Foreign Services Act). 

North Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ibrahim Muhammad proposed to neither to check the records and nor to interview the appointees as all the appointees are already appointed for different positions, henceforth, their records were checked previously and were also interviewed previously by the Committee. It was seconded by North Kulhudhuffushi Constituency Member Mohamed Dhawoodh. The proposal was passed unanimously.

And then North Kulhudhuffushi Constituency Member Mohamed Dhawoodh proposed to set a deadline of February 17, 2025, (Monday) for the completion of reviewing the issue referred by the President for the approval of the Parliament on the participation of “Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works” and to set a deadline of February 13, 2025, (Thursday) for the completion of reviewing the issues sent by the President regarding the appointment of Ambassadors and Representatives. It was seconded by Vilingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez. The proposal was passed unanimously.
