Public Accounts Committee's 07th meeting for the year 2025

Summary

In this meeting, the committee first discussed a letter received from Maldives Media Council requesting an increment to the salary of the staffs. The committee decided to inform the Council to discuss with the National Pay Commission regarding the salary of their staff.

 

A letter received from Cartunes International Pvt Ltd regarding the payments pending from the Road Development Corporation to the company was discussed and decided to inform them to discuss the issue with the relevant authorities.

 

Following that, information received from Local Government Authority regarding the local councils participating in a roadshow held in Thailand to promote the islands was shared with the members.

 

A letter from a Whistleblower regarding the corruption of Police Cooperative Society (POLCO) was discussed. As proposed by Hanimaadhoo constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa and seconded by Kelaa Constitueny member Abdulla Shareef, the committee decided to send the issue to the sub committee formed to review the Special Audit of Police Housing Project.

 

The below mentioned documents were shared with the members;

1.  An email from Auditor General’s Office regarding the deadline to complete the SDFC Audit and HDC Audit requested by the committee

2.  A letter regarding the deadline to complete the SIFCO Audits requested by the committee

3.  A letter from Maldives Police Service regarding the registration of the Aasandha Corruption issue that the committee requested to investigate.


Furthermore, the Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim proposed to request an opinion of Prosecutor General regarding the possibility filing a criminal charge against Executors General Trading (Dubai) for the failure of delivering the Ventilators in the case of wake of Covid-19. This proposal was seconded by South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr.Ahmed Shamheed and passed unanimously.


In addition, as proposed by Gemanafushi Constituency member Asadhulla Shihab and seconded by Hanimaadhoo Constituency member Abdul Gafoor Moosa, the committee unanimously decided to review the plan of the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works to spend MVR 28,000,000 to light up the local islands for the Eid festival.
