Decentralization Committee 3rd meeting of the year 2025

10 Mar 2025 Number M20/M/LM/2025/03

Summary

In today’s meeting, the Committee first addressed the copy letters submitted for review. Following standard procedure, the members agreed to share the letters with the Committee and file them accordingly.

The Committee then reviewed a letter from the public concerning the B. Kudarikilu Council’s decision to designate the northern area of Kudarikilu beachside for guesthouses. The letter also raised concerns about the Council’s failure to comply with the People’s Majlis Petition Committee’s recommendation to review the island’s current land use plan. Regarding this issue, Nilandhoo Constituency Member Fathimath Sauda proposed, and Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi seconded, a motion to further examine the issue in upcoming Committee meetings and to send letters to relevant authorities to gather necessary information.

The proposal was passed unanimously by the members present.

Lastly, the Committee reviewed L. Maamendhoo Council’s issue regarding the operational hours of the L. Maamendhoo Health Centre. The Council requested that the Centre operate for 16 hours, in accordance with its designation as a Level 2 Health Centre. Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed proposed to collect information from the Ministry of Health to assess the request. Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi seconded the motion, and the Committee agreed to proceed accordingly.

The proposal was passed unanimously by the members present.
