Summary

In today’s meeting, the Committee reviewed the Bill on the Amendment to the Maldives Sports Act (Law No: 30/2015) and the Bill on Animal Welfare.


The Committee first addressed the Bill on Animal Welfare. During the discussion, West Maafannu Constituency Member Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim proposed to seek comments from relevant authorities regarding the bill. The proposal was seconded by North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim.

The proposal was passed unanimously by the members present.


Following that, the Committee proceeded to review the Bill on the Amendment to the Maldives Sports Act (Law No: 30/2015). The review resumed from the section last discussed in previous meetings.

After deliberations among Committee members, North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim proposed to seek the Attorney General’s legal opinion on addressing a gap in the current law and the proposed amendment—specifically concerning the lack of provisions to hold individuals accountable for the misuse of funds received by Sports Associations. The motion was seconded by West Maafannu Constituency Member Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim.

The proposal was passed unanimously by the members present.
