Summary
In today's meeting, the annual report of Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives for the year 2024 was shared with the members.
The committee discussed the issue of block grants given to the local councils and failure to reconcile the banks accounts of some councils. As proposed by Baarashu Constitueny member and seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member, the committee decided to request to the Committee on Decentralization to consider this issue while they review the resolution related to decentralization that the committee is currently reviewing.
Below mentioned documents were discussed and forwarded to sub-committee 2 of Public Accounts committee which was formed to review the Special Audit Report of the Police Housing Project:
1. A letter related to the corruption of Police Cooperative Society (POLCO);
2. Issue related to stalling the inquiries of multiple corruption cases involving a senior police official, despite efforts by relevant institutions to investigate the matter;
3. Issue of lack of cooperation from the seniors of the Maldives Police Service for the investigation of lost items from duty-exempted items brought for the MPS Flat Project;
4. Information received from Maldives Police Service regarding the transaction to acquire body worn camera and related accessories for the use of the service; and
5. Information received from Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology regarding the Feydhoo Sandbank and Lh. Maabinhuraa handed over to Maldives Police Service by the former governments.
Furthermore, a letter received from Auditor General’s Office regarding the request from the committee to include the process of local councils leasing the lands, uninhabited islands and sandbanks in their possession while auditing the local councils was shared with the members.
