Summary
The first item on the agenda for today's meeting was to elect the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee. Director, Legal Affairs, Uza. Aishath Shifa facilitated the election of the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee. Central Maafannu Constituency Member Asma Rasheed proposed to elect South Feydhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi as the Committee’s chair. This was seconded by North Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Ibrahim Muhammad. The Committee unanimously decided to elect South Feydhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi as the Chair of the Committee.

For the Deputy Chair of the Committee, Central Maafannu Constituency Member Asma Rasheed proposed, and Naifaru Constituency Member Yaaseen Abdulla seconded the name of West Maafannu Constituency Member Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim. The Committee unanimously decided to elect West Maafannu Constituency Member Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim as the Chair of the Committee.

The Committee then decided on the working quorum of the Committee. Central Maafannu Constituency Member Asma Rasheed proposed 13 members as the working quorum, and Kudahuvadhoo Constituency Member Hussain Hameed seconded that proposal. Next, the Committee decided on the voting quorum of the committee. Hoarafushi Constituency Member Ali Moosa proposed 12 members as the voting quorum, and this was seconded by Central Hulhumale Constituency Member Abdulla Shazeem. After that, the Committee proceeded to set a deadline for the resolution sent to the Committee. When the floor was opened to propose a deadline, Hoarafushi Constituency Member Ali Moosa proposed 23 July 2025. Central Maafannu Constituency Member Asma Rasheed proposed 30 July 2025. Neither of these proposals received support from any member. When Villingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez proposed 15 August 2025 as the deadline, it was seconded by Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer. The final matter discussed at this meeting was regarding how to proceed with the resolution work sent to the committee. Accordingly, when Villingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez proposed to proceed with the resolution work in consultation with all relevant institutions, Thoddoo Constituency Member Hussain Sameer seconded the motion. Lastly, as no objections were raised by any members, the Committee Chair made the decision to give a 7-day period for public comments on the resolution.
