Summary

The first item on today’s agenda was to discuss the matter related to the President's request to extend the tenure of Children's Ombudsperson Niumaath Shafeeq for an additional 5 years. In this regard, South Maafannu Constituency Member Abdulla Rifau proposed setting 21 July 2025 as the deadline to complete the review of the matter and to interview Niumaath Shafeeq on 16 July 2025. The proposal was seconded by Central Maafannu Constituency Member Asma Rasheed. Following further discussions among the members, Vaikaradhoo Constituency member Hussain Ziyad proposed opening for public complaints regarding the Children’s Ombudsperson, Niumaath Shafeeq. This proposal was seconded by Kudahuvadhoo Constituency Member Hussain Hameed. Both proposals was passed unanimously.


The second item on the agenda was the review of the issues submitted to the committee. Dhaandhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Fazeel supported the proposal by Huraa Constituency Member Dr. Anara Naeem to hold the committee's meeting confidential, as the cases submitted contain individuals’ personal information. This proposal was also passed unanimously.
