Summary
In today’s meeting, committee met with the officials of Family Protection Authority regarding their 2024 Annual Report and the Summary Monitoring Report of 2024 prepared under the Sexual Offences Act. The presentation by the authority highlighted the a brief on the annual report and the key findings of the monitoring report.
The presentation included the works carried out in 2024 and those that are in progress and the challenges faced by the Authority.
Furthermore, one of the key findings of the monitoring report highlighted in the meeting was that the only hospitals in Maldives that have ‘rape evidence kits’ are Hulhumale’ Hospital and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. The Authority also stated that out of 193 hospitals/ health centers, only one health worker from Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital had undergone the 'Victim and Trauma Informed Training'.
In addition, the budgetary challenges and the details of the works in progress and planned for 2025 were shared with the committee.
