Summary
The first item on the agenda for this meeting was the issue of providing approval to the presidential nominee for Chief Justice, Uz. Abdul Ghanee Mohamed. Member of Huraa Constituency, Dr. Anara Naeem suggested to review the documents sent to the committee from Majlis. Member of Faresmaathodaa Constituency Ashraf Rasheed proposed to provide approval to the Presidential nominee, as Uz. Abdul Ghanee Mohamed was the most competent of the candidates who applied for the position of Chief Justice. This proposal was seconded by Member of Thimarafushi Constituency Ahmed Riyaz. Next, the Committee discussed extending the deadline determined by the Committee to review the Attorney General’s Office Act Amendment Bill. Member of South Hithadhoo Constituency proposed extending the deadline to 10th August 2025. This proposal was seconded by Member of Faresmaathodaa Consitutency. This proposal was unanimously passed by members present in the committee.

Following the vote, the Committee reviewed the Attorney General’s Office Act Amendment Bill. The Committee meeting was concluded after the committee decided to hold the vote to pass the bill after having cleared from Attorney General’s Office the concerns of members regarding the bill.
