Committee Meeting - People's Majlis of Maldives

Summary

In today’s meeting committee reviewed Maldives Media and broadcasting regulation Bill. Committee discussed the amendments proposed from Attorney General’s Office and amended them in accordance with the amendments sent by the Attorney General's Office.

Aftere that, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Member for South Galolhu constituency, then stated on the record the individual articles along with the proposed amendments from the Attorney-General’s Office, stating on the record his views on each article, and the amendment he proposed to bring.

The Chairman of the Committee opened to support the proposal of South Galolhu Constituency Member Michael Ahmed Naseem. However, no members supported the proposal. Then committee began with a vote on the proposal by Kela MP Abdullah Sharif and seconded by South Fuvahmulah MP Ibrahim Hussain.

When the proposal was put to vote, seven members of the committee voted to pass the bill with the amendments. However, after the members voted in favor, the committee meeting was adjourned when journalists in the committee room started shouting.
