Lastly, the Committee discussed the issue submitted by MP Musthafa Hussain of South Mahchangolhi Constituency, regarding the lack of adoption-related leave under the Employment Act or the Civil Service Regulation for a child’s legal guardian, or for the guardian in cases where the mother passes away after childbirth. He requested the Committee to review and identify possible amendments to the relevant laws and regulations to address this gap, as the issue persists despite the existence of maternity-related leave provisions under the Employment Act (2/2008) and the Maldives Civil Service Regulation 2014.
Following discussions, MP Azim Abdul Azeez of Vilingili Constituency proposed, and MP Hussain Sameer of Thoddoo Constituency seconded, to seek written clarification on the above mentioned matter from Ministry of Social and Family Development, Attorney General’s Office and Civil Service Commission.
