Budget Committee's 01st meeting for the year 2025

Summary

First on the agenda for today’s meeting was the appointment of the Committee chair and Deputy chair of the committee. Shabana Rasheed, Director General, presided over the selection process of committee's chairperson and deputy chairperson.


Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh proposed to elect Eydhafushi Constituency member Ahmed Saleem as the Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by Faresmaathodaa Constituency member Ashraf Rasheed and passed unanimously. The voting details for this proposal are on “Votes” section of this page.

 

Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh proposed to elect Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad as the Deputy Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by Faresmaathodaa Constituency member Ashraf Rasheed and passed unanimously. The voting details for this proposal are on “Votes” section of this page.

 

Following the election, the Chair of the Committee, Eydhafushi Constituency member Ahmed Saleem presided over and opened the floor to propose the working quorum, voting quorum and the quorum of the committee meetings in which the committee meets with people. Kelaa Constituency member Abdulla Shareef proposed to pass the working quorum as 8 members. It was seconded by Faresmaathodaa Constituency member Ashraf Rasheed and passed unanimously. Furthermore, Kelaa Constituency member Abdulla Shareef proposed to pass the voting quorum as 12 members. It was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously. In addition, Kelaa Constituency member Abdulla Shareef proposed to pass the quorum of the committee meetings in which the committee meets with people as 8 members. Next on the agenda was the finalizing deadline to complete the work of 2026 Proposed Budget by the committee. Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad proposed to complete the work of the 2026 Proposed Budget latest by 19th November 2025. It was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously. The voting details for this proposal are on “Votes” section of this page.

 

Furthermore, the committee decided to meet with Minister of Finance and Planning and Auditor General regarding the 2026 Proposed Budget on 9th November 2025. In addition, it was decided to meet with MMA governor on 15th November 2025. Moreover, the committee decided to send letters to independent institutions to obtain additional information regarding proposed budgets. Also, it was decided to meet with Anti-Corruption Commission and Maldives Customs Service regarding the allocated budget.
