Summary
In this meeting the committee discussed issuing a press statement announcing its advice to the President to reinstate Mr. Mahmoud Riyaz, the former Deputy Commissioner of the Maldives Customs Service. This recommendation followed the committee’s review of the incidents involving the smuggling of cigarette cartons on a vessel belonging to The Hawks Private Limited and the illegal release of cigarettes from a bonded warehouse without the authority of the Maldives Customs Service. The committee concluded that Mr. Mahmoud Riyaz had no direct involvement in any of these incidents.
Following deliberations, MP Ibrahim Falah of Inguraidhoo Constituency proposed, and MP Mohamed Shahid of Hulhudhoo Constituency seconded, that the committee issue a press release to publicize its decision.
