Summary
In this meeting, the committee met with Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority regarding the proposed budget for the year 2026, and information was sought about the professional opinion provided by the Governor concerning the budget. In this regard, the Governor provided recommendations on state revenue, expenditure, financing, and medium-term fiscal targets. Additionally, the Governor highlighted that as salaries increase due to pay harmonization, recurrent expenditure will also increase, suggesting that salary increases should be implemented in phases. The Governor also noted that although the energy sector needs development like food security, no work has been done so far to develop this sector. Furthermore, the Governor emphasized that foreign currency issues can only be resolved by increasing reserves.
