Committee on Secondary Legislation's 9th Meeting 2025

01 Dec 2025 Number M20/M/GV/2025/09

Summary

During today's meeting, members discussed the pending issues in the committee status. Firstly, the committee decided to file 2 issues submitted regarding the regulations formulated by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority by a whistleblower, as a decision has been made regarding this issue previously.

Secondly, the committee discussed the issue of reviewing the regulations under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher education, Labour and Skills Development. As the contradictions identified in some of the regulations have been discussed with the officials of the ministries it was decided to file this issue unanimously.

Then members discussed the letter sent to get statistics of regulations not framed under the acts passed by People’s Majlis and decided to share the information received by the relevant ministries to the member who proposed the issue.

Furthermore, the committee discussed the issue submitted to review the policy established by the Ministry of Education, regarding Persons who can attend school functions as guests of honor. As the ministry has informed that members of parliament are included in the lists of people who can be the Guest of Honor in school functions, it was decided to file the issue.

Lastly, members discussed the issue submitted to review safety measures for tourists and the issue proposed to find ways to ensure tourists safety when tourists staying in resorts use the excursion services offered by guesthouses in nearby residential islands. The committee has met with the officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment regarding these issues and have been informed that measures are being taken to ensure safety of tourists through amendments to relevant regulations, so it was decided to file these 2 issues.
