Public Accounts Committee's 50th meeting for the year 2025

03 Dec 2025 Number M20/M/ML/2025/50

Summary

In today's meeting, the committee reviewed a letter received from GA. Dhevvadhoo council stating the concerns regarding the block grant approved for the year 2026, the issue of unpaid utility bills due to the reduction in the council's block grant related to Covid-19 utility and requesting an additional MVR 2.3 million to the budget allocated for 2026. Kelaa Constiteuncy member Abdulla Shareef proposed to request Ministry of Finance and Planning to find a solution for the submitted issue. It was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously. The voting details are on “Votes” section of this page.

Following this, the committee reviewed the issues from public regarding pension retirement schemes which were forwarded by Committee on Independent Institutions, as the matter falls under the mandate of this committee. The committee decided to obtain information from Civil Service Commission and Maldives Pension Administration Office regarding the issues.

Then, the issues submitted by public concerning problems identified in the new Pay Framework for those working in the legal sector were discussed. Kelaa Constiteuncy member Abdulla Shareef proposed to obtain information related to the issue from the Civil Service Commission. This was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously. The voting details are on “Votes” section of this page.

Next on agenda was the issue submitted requesting a solution to the problem where State-owned enterprises have not paid for goods and services provided by private companies, as the government has not released the funds due to these State-owned enterprises. In this regard, Kelaa Constiteuncy member Abdulla Shareef proposed to request Ministry of Finance and Planning to find a solution to the issue. It was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously by the committee. The voting details are on “Votes” section of this page.

As the last item on the agenda, the concern regarding the decision of the Ministry of Finance and Planning to discontinue the living allowance provided to the staff of the Information Commissioner's Office and to reclaim the living allowance paid over the past 1 year and 10 months from the employees, was discussed among the members. Kelaa Constiteuncy member Abdulla Shareef stated that it is unfair to recover the excess amount of money paid to the employees of that Commission when the employees were not at fault. Therefore, to identify the employees responsible for the negligence in this matter, he proposed to request the Commission to review the sequence of events, and obtain required information from Ministry of Finance and Planning regarding the issue. This proposal was seconded by Funadhoo Constituency member Mohamed Mamdooh and passed unanimously by the committee. The voting details are on “Votes” section of this page.
