Summary
In today’s meeting, members discussed the issue sent raising concern regarding the regulations to be formed under Act no 6/2024 (Food Safety Act). As mentioned in the letter only 4 regulations have been published out of 20 regulations mentioned in the Act. Manadhoo constituency Member Husnee Mubarik proposed meeting with the relevant officials of the Ministry of Health to clarify the matter. This proposal was seconded by Velidhoo constituency Member Mohamed Abbas and was passed unanimously.
Discussions were also held on extending the period for implementation of the regulations listed in Annex 1 and 2 of Act no 6/2008 (General Regulations Act). In this regard the Attorney General's Office has informed the committee that the draft bill on the Defamation Compensation Regulation under Annex 2 of the said act would be submitted to Parliament in June 2026. Hence, the committee voted unanimously to remove 3 regulations listed in Annex 1 of and to extend the period for implementation of the regulation listed in Annex 2 of Act no 6/2008 (General Regulations Act) until 30 April 2027.
