Summary
In today’s meeting, the Committee discussed a matter submitted by a private party requesting the Committee to assess how effectively the regulations and guidelines made under Law No. 2/2024 (Occupational Health and Safety Act) are being implemented. Following deliberations, Felidhoo Constituency Member Adam Zahir proposed that a response be sent to the individual incorporating the information received from the Ministry of Higher Education, Labor and Skills Development. The proposal was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed.
The motion was passed unanimously by the members present at the time of voting.
The Committee also decided to urge the Ministry to finalize the guidelines and policies mandated under Section 73 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Next, the Committee discussed an issue submitted by North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim regarding the operation of harbors servicing international vessels. Following deliberations, Felidhoo Constituency Member Adam Zahir proposed that a response be sent to the petitioner incorporating the information received from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. The proposal was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed.
The motion was passed unanimously by the members present at the time of voting.
Lastly, the Committee discussed a matter submitted by North Galolhu Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim requesting clarification regarding the fire incident that occurred on 12 March 2026 at an accommodation block in Adh. Dhigurah, in which five expatriate workers lost their lives. When the floor was opened for discussion, Felidhoo Constituency Member Adam Zahir proposed that letters be sent to the relevant authorities to obtain further information on the matter. This proposal was seconded by Vilufushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed.
The motion was passed unanimously by the members present at the time of voting.
