Committee on Decentralization
12 May 2026 Number M20/M/LM/2026/03
The work carried out at today’s meeting was to review the matters submitted to the committee.
In this regard, since it was unclear which authority is responsible for overseeing the staff working in mosques, and because a matter had been submitted requesting that mosque employees be provided with a proper salary as well as one day off per week, the committee noted from a letter sent by the Civil Service Commission that a solution to this issue had been reached.
Therefore, it was proposed by Ibrahim Didi, and seconded by Asadulla Shihab, that the committee conclude its work on this matter and inform the party that had submitted the issue.

After that, regarding the matter submitted by the V. Atoll Council requesting a legal solution to ensure that the work of the Rakeedhoo Council would not come to a halt due to council office staff not attending work, it was proposed by Asadulla Shihab, and seconded by Hassan Waheed, that the Local Government Authority be informed so that it could examine what solution could be found for the matter.

Next, the committee proceeded to discuss the matter concerning a review of the work of the Malé City Council up until the end of 2025, and a request for the Local Government Authority to take action. Since this matter had also been forwarded to other relevant authorities in addition to being sent to the committee, it was proposed by Ahmed Aifan, and seconded by Fathimath Saudha, that the matter be filed after reviewing the actions taken by those authorities regarding the issue.

In addition, regarding the matter alleging that the President of the Dh. Atoll Council and the council administration had acted in violation of the Decentralization Act and were working to create public hatred against the government among citizens, Fathimath Saudha proposed that a letter be sent to the Local Government Authority to clarify whether the matter had been submitted to the authority and, if it had been submitted, to clarify the outcome of the authority’s review of the case. The proposal was seconded by Ahmed Aifan.
