Summary

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the matters submitted by the President regarding the appointment of Thoriq Ibrahim (G. Noomaraa Hiya) as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, and the appointment of Adam Shareef Umar (Chaman / R. Fainu) as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the State of Qatar.

 

Accordingly, the Member for the Kulhudhuffushi North Constituency, Mohamed Dawood, proposed May 24, 2026, as the deadline for completing this review. Furthermore, as the nominees' qualifications were evident from their CVs, he proposed clearing their records and proceeding with the matter without conducting formal interviews. This proposal was seconded by the Member for the Fuvahmulah South Constituency, Ibrahim Hussain, and was passed by a majority of the members present.

 

Subsequently, the Committee deliberated on the review of the 2024 Annual Report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its 20 subordinate missions. Since the initial deadline for this matter had expired, the Member for the Kulhudhuffushi North Constituency, Mohamed Dawood, proposed extending the completion deadline to July 30, 2026. This proposal was seconded by the Member for the Maafannu South Constituency, Abdulla Rifau, and was passed unanimously by the members present.

 

Following this, as part of its review of the Annual Report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its 20 subordinate missions, the Committee reviewed the report of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva.
