Summary
Today, the Committee reviewed the President’s referral regarding the appointment of the President of the Elections Commission in accordance with Section 7(b) of the Elections Commission Act (Act No. 8/2008).
Once the Committee Chair opened the floor for members’ input, Fuvahmulah South Constituency Member Ibrahim Hussain proposed, and Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi seconded, approving (at the Committee level) the appointment of Elections Commission Member Mohamed Shakeel, Registry No. RS 13449, as President of the Elections Commission without conducting another interview. This was proposed to conclude the matter in a timely manner, as his eligibility had already been reviewed and approved by the Committee when he was appointed as a member of the Elections Commission.
