Summary
Today, as the first item on the agenda, the committee reviewed a letter sent by the Elections Commission regarding the changes to the membership of the Women’s Development Committees. As the letter was submitted for the Committee’s attention, it was shared with the committee members, who were then given time to read and consider its content.
Following this, the committee deliberated on extending the deadline to complete its review of the resolution by Baarashu Constituency Member Ibrahim Shujau, seeking the views of the members of the 20th Parliament on the increase in the number of members of Parliament every five years. As the previously set deadline had expired before the committee could conclude its work, members discussed setting a new completion date.
Once the Chair opened the floor for member’s input, Henveiru Hulhangu Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim proposed, and Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi seconded, setting 30 November 2026 as the new deadline for the committee to complete its review of the resolution by Baarashu Constituency Member Ibrahim Shujau, seeking the views of the members of the 20th Parliament on the continued increase in the number of members of Parliament every five years.
