Summary
The work carried out at today’s meeting was to review the matters submitted to the committee. First, regarding the matter that was submitted concerning the illegal allocation of a large plot of land in the Addu City Meedhoo Tourism Zone to a private party without a bidding process, Henveiru North Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to administratively check the progress of this investigation and to continue working on the issue once information is received. The committee had decided to waive off 10 years of unpaid rent and fines for a fishing plot leased in 2013 to a company registered to the Mayor’s brother, and to extend the lease to 20 years. The second issue involved a private company that failed to supply three road sweepers. Instead of enforcing the contract's penalties, the council unlawfully canceled the agreement and forgave the advance payment and damages owed by the company. Henveiru North Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to check the progress of the investigations into both matters and to proceed with further work once more information is received. It was seconded by Nilandhoo Constituency Member Fathimath Saudha. When the proposal was put to a vote, it was unanimously approved by the members present and participating in the committee vote.
Next, the committee proceeded to discuss a letter requesting an update on the committee's actions regarding the resolution ‘Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations,’ which was passed at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul. Henveiru North Constituency Member Ahmed Aifan proposed to administratively gather the requested information and prepare a response to submit to the committee. This was seconded by Addu Meedhoo Constituency Member Abdul Rahman. When the proposal was put to a vote, it was unanimously approved by the members present and participating in the committee vote.
