Summary
In today’s meeting, the committee started its work regarding the Bill on the Amendment to the Act No. 2010/7 (Decentralization Act). Keyodhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Niushad proposed to set the deadline of the Bill as 30th September 2026 to allow sufficient time for public comment and stakeholder consultation. This was seconded by Hithadhoo Uthuru Constituency Member Abdulla Sodiq. When put to a vote, this proposal did not get enough votes to pass.
Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi proposed that the committee set the deadline of the Bill as 16th August 2026, 12:00, and to allow the public to comment on the Bill until 13th August 2026, 13:00. This proposal was seconded by Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed, and when put to a vote, it was passed by the majority of the members present.
Afterwards, the committee started the work regarding the names forwarded by the President for appointment to the Board of the Local Government Authority. Vilifushi Constituency Member Hassan Waheed proposed to open the opportunity for the public to submit complaints regarding the nominees until 16th August 2026, 14:00. This was seconded by Kolamaafushi Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi. When put to a vote, it was passed by the majority of the members present.
