Petition Committee
14 Oct 2026 Number M20/M/PT/2026/12
In today's meeting, the committee members discussed “A Petition calling on the Government to establish general guidelines on grooming and dress codes for employees in the tourism industry, and urging the People’s Majlis to proceed with the resolution submitted to it and reach a decision on the matter”, has received the required number of signatures to meet threshold-1 as specified under Article 6-257(n)(1) of the Standing Orders of the People’s Majlis.
It was further discussed that the resolution referred to in the petition is currently under consideration by the Economic Committee, and it was suggested that the committee’s progress on the matter should be reviewed. However, given the number of members present at the meeting, the required quorum for voting was not met. Therefore, Vaikaradhoo constituency member Hussain Ziyaadh, highlighted that the committee was unable to decide on the petition included in the agenda.
The proposal was seconded by Dhidhdhoo constituency member Abdul Latheef Mohamed. He suggested that, in reviewing the progress made by the Economic Committee, a letter should be sent to the committee requesting information on the consultations held with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and the responses provided by the Ministry.
