Summary
In today’s meeting, the committee members reviewed a letter submitted to the People’s Majlis by a private individual concerning changes made to the government’s pay framework.
During the discussion on how to proceed with this matter, Fuvahmulah mid constituency member, Ali Fazad proposed that the matter be referred to the Committee on Security Services, as it relates to the Maldives Correctional Service. The proposal was seconded by Felidhoo constituency member, Adam Zahir. The motion was subsequently passed by the unanimous consensus of the members present and voting at the Committee meeting.
Secondly, the committee reviewed a letter submitted by Dhidhdhoo constituency member, Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
The letter requested that the People’s Majlis urge the relevant government authorities to address the difficulties and financial losses faced by individuals whose passports are withheld by Maldives Immigration, particularly when the information about the passport being withheld is not shared with the passport holder.
After discussing the matter among the members, it was decided that a decision should be made at another meeting.
The final matter discussed was the review of a complaint submitted by a private individual alleging that Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital was engaging in practices that facilitated corruption in the recruitment of doctors and nurses.
During the discussion on how to proceed with the matter, Felidhoo constituency member Adam Zahir proposed sending a letter to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to seek clarification and further information regarding the allegations of corruption in the hospital’s recruitment process. The proposal was seconded by Fuvahmulah Mid constituency member Ali Fazad.
The motion was subsequently passed by the unanimous consensus of the members present and voting at the Committee meeting.
