The Security Services Committee is established under Article 241 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives to oversee the operations of the security services. During the 2nd Session of the 20th Parliament, held on June 3, 2024, the members of this committee were formally approved. This Committee is tasked with ensuring that the Maldives National Defense Force and the Maldives Police Service operate in strict compliance with the Constitution, laws, and regulations of the Republic of Maldives. It holds these agencies accountable by engaging with them, reviewing their activities, questioning their practices, and assessing their adherence to their mandates. The Committee also addresses and investigates complaints related to these security agencies and provides necessary guidance and recommendations. Furthermore, section 127 of the Standing Order of People’s Majlis mandates the Committee to carry out all duties assigned to it concerning the institutions within its jurisdiction.
