The Speaker of the People's Majlis, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdullah, paid a courtesy call on Lok Sabha Speaker Hon. Om Birla today during his visit to India.
During their meeting, the two speakers discussed the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and India and emphasized avenues for enhancing parliamentary cooperation. Speaker Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdullah thanked the Lok Sabha Speaker highlighting the ongoing training programs conducted by the Lok Sabha for People's Majlis Secretariat staff under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parliaments. He also requested further support in developing further the library and archives of the People's Majlis and he also expressed gratitude for India's continued assistance.
Lok Sabha Speaker Hon. Om Birla reaffirmed India's readiness to share its expertise in parliamentary operations, particularly digital innovations and training through the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE).
The visit has further strengthened the relationship between the two parliaments. Speaker Hom. Abdul Raheem Abdullah extended a formal invitation to Lok Sabha Speaker Hon. Om Birla to visit the Maldives.
In honor of the delegation, Speaker Hon. Om Birla hosted a luncheon. The delegation also observed a session of the Indian Parliament and toured key facilities to gain insights into its operations.
Earlier in the day, Speaker Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla and his delegation visited Raj Ghat.
This visit marks a significant step in strengthening Maldives-India parliamentary ties and fostering bilateral cooperation.
